Horseback camp is divided into two periods that equate to a 9:00am-4:00pm schedule. Mornings are spent at the stables, where campers have the opportunity to learn horsemanship skills and have a riding lesson. Later in the afternoon, campers return to the campus where they can enjoy the other many diverse activities of our Junior Discovery or Teen Exploration programs.
Certified instructors separate the campers into the appropriate riding groups and campers are matched to a specific horse based on the camper's weight, ability and personality. Skills taught at riding camp include grooming, horse handling safety, tacking up, and stable management. Campers receive a riding lesson each day until Friday when they have an opportunity to display those skills for parents in our "riding show." At the show, campers receive ribbons for their performances as well as a certificate indicating their level. The show is also designed as an opportunity for parents to meet with their children’s instructors.
