It is our belief that when reporting the ratio of counselors to campers, it should be done relative to the number
of adult counselors a camp is utilizing. When many camp programs advertise their ratios, it is often by including
counselors-in-training (CITs) who are still in their mid-teens. For example, if there is a group of 10 campers with a 22 year-old
counselor and a 14 year-old CIT, the camp will say that it has a 5:1 ratio. In our book, it is 10:1.
With Camp Mirror Lake, we have both adult supervision as well as teen leaders who assist the groups, however we never count
the assistants as part of our ratios and they also do not supervise the groups or their activities. Based on this information, our
Mirror Lake staffing is typically as good as most premium camps based on the way those figures are often calculated.
