Would you like to be one of us? Our summer camp staff team is primarily comprised of three types of leaders:
Many of our activity specialists are individuals who work in their craft year-round as teachers or as professionals in their respective industry. We are always looking for more talented individuals with the credentials and the background who can contribute to the strength of our program.
The MLDC offers a parent-counselor program that allows parents who have daytime availability to work with us while their children attend camp for a reduced fee or at no cost whatsoever. Like all staff, they are screened via CORI/SORI checks, references, etc. We have found that parents are great role models for our younger staff and help to keep the culture of child care at a superior level. All primary staff are a minimum of 18 years of age and they are chosen for their enthusiasm, leadership skills and their dedication to providing the highest quality camp experience to our campers and our program. In speaking to our college students, you will find that the majority are majoring in some aspect of childhood education and welfare or they have already have a background in working with children.
We operate ten weeks every summer, which includes a week of staff training and eight one week sessions. General staff training begins during the third week of June. Our day camp is operational Monday through Friday from the fourth week of June through the third week of August.

CPR and First Aid are required by all camp staff working at The Marcus Lewis Day Camp. We will provide an opportunity for staff to become certified during staff training however, staff are encouraged to attain this certification prior to camp.
Provide guidance and leadership to a group of day campers. Help organize, lead games, and other recreational activities. Must be at least 18 years of age, and have a desire to work with children. Experience working with children and CPR/First Aid preferred.
Manage Health Office. Administer First Aid and medications as needed to MLDC staff and/or campers. Maintain required forms, logs, and act as a liaison with the on-call camp physician. Participate in staff training and teach areas related to camp health & safety, and universal precautions for infection control. RN or Certified/licensed Athletic Trainer preferred.
Primary responsibility will be overseeing the Day Trip Adventure programs. Previous camp leadership and/or supervisory preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Responsible for assisting the Day Trip Supervisor in providing guidance, leadership and safety protocols to campers. Previous experience leading wilderness trips and/or student trips with NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar programs preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills and work with teenagers ideal.
Responsible for the supervision of our English Riding Program offered in conjunction with Harmony Horse Stables. This position is responsible for assisting with the instruction of riding lessons, care of horses, and the horseback curriculum. Applicant must have experience riding horses, tacking and stable management.
Assist the golf instructor in all aspects of the golf program. Experience working with children and CPR/First Aid required. Golf experience preferred.
Familiar with basic culinary skills and able to assist instructor in all aspects of a culinary class.
This position provides support and assistance to all management personnel. Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, computer data entry, filing, running reports, and telephone responsibilities. Applicant must be computer literate and knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access preferred.
Oversee our Camp Mirror Lake (CML) program by managing staff and working directly with the kids. Previous leadership/supervisory position preferred. Must be CPR/First Aid certified. Lifeguard and WSI certification is a big plus for this position.
