In our never-ending quest to give campers options not offered elsewhere, the MLDC is introducing the first sewing/scrapbooking camp in the area. The demand for these activities is hot, however the availability of such programs is extremely limited.

Both parents and campers have been looking for a program that provides quality sewing instruction and will allow participants to walk away with the skills and knowledge to be able to repair their own clothes properly or to make a creation of their own choosing. Campers have an opportunity to use our brand new sewing machines and learn correct sewing/stitching techniques that can be applied at home.

Our scrapbooking component allows campers to retain memories that the entire family will love and appreciate. Those who have put together a scrapbook realize the level of creativity involved in encapsulating memories that last a lifetime. The sky's the limit as far as how campers are able to express themselves using a number of materials and mediums that the camp provides. Campers alternate working on both projects throughout the week and are then able to bring home their artistry and share it with family.

Our Stitch in Time specialist, Karen Darcangelo, owns and operates Saltbox Stitchery, a custom drapery business. Karen comes to The Marcus Lewis Day Camp with 28 years of sewing experience. She started making her own doll clothes as a child and ultimately constructed her own wedding dress, dresses for her son's wedding and most recently has made her daughter's prom dress.

A tremendous advantage with all of our specialty camps is that campers can participate in the many other activities that are offered during the afternoons by joining in with their Junior Discovery group or the Teen Exploration program.

Campers registered for specialty programs also have the option of taking the morning off from their specialty to join the Junior Discovery or Teen Exploration camps if they would prefer instead to participate in those activities. Again, there is fantastic flexibility with these programs so that your camper returns to you with a wonderful smile and great stories to share.

Dates and rates for this and all camps can be accessed via the link menu on the left or by clicking here. Our exceptional lunch program is also included with this camp.
